Minicoy Island
Minicoy island is located approximately 400 km off the coast of Kochi. It is one of the 36 small islets which form part of Lakshadweep group of islands. Minicoy is famous for coral reefs and white sand beaches amidst vast expanse of Arabian sea.
Minicoy island is one of the few inhabited islands in Lakshadweep and it is the second largest there. It is best known for tranquillity due to its location as it is far away from mainland. Therefore, A visitor here feels that he is very close to nature and far from hustle and bustle of daily life. It is an unforgettable experience to spend time on virgin and unspoilt beaches surrounded by palm and coconut trees which add to its beauty.
There is an old light out built in 1885 by British is a landmark and also offers great view of Jama masjid, built in medieval era is another great attraction for all visitors to this island. You can also enjoy water sports facilities here among which, kayaking on traditional boats is a great way of exploring coral reef. Besides kayaking, you can also enjoy scuba diving and snorkelling.
Minicoy Island, the southernmost island of Lakshadweep, is geographically closer to the Maldives than to the other Indian islands in the group. The nearest island to Minicoy is Thuraakunu, an inhabited island of the Maldives, located just 35 kilometers to the south. Historically, Minicoy has been associated with the Maliku Atoll, which shares cultural and linguistic similarities with the northern Maldives. Among the Lakshadweep islands, Kalpeni, situated about 250 kilometers north, and Kavaratti, the capital of Lakshadweep, around 300 kilometers away, are the closest. Despite being part of India, Minicoy’s isolation from the rest of Lakshadweep makes it unique in its traditions and influences.

The cuisine is mainly Keralite. Tuna fish is mostly available here so you can have it grilled, baked or fried. Spiced coconut-rich Vegetarian & Non vegetarian food. Curried, fried and barbecued fish.
